Where To Find Amazing Tau Foo Fah In Ipoh
We’ll let you in on a secret. There’s no single place that does tau foo fah best in Ipoh.
These places that we are sharing in this post all serve a delightfully smooth soybean pudding. It just depends how you like yours – with special toppings or with an unusual sugar syrup.
There’s also the matter of dining ambiance as some places don’t offer comfortable seats.
Funny Mountain Soya Beancurd
This is the most famous spot to get tau foo fah in Ipoh. It’s got a great location in Ipoh New Town close to another tourist hotspot, Restoran Tauge Ayam Lou Wong.
Their tau foo fah is simple (and pricey for what you get) and truer to the authentic way of serving this dessert.
Although they seldom use ceramic bowls for serving their tau foo fah now. They tend to use the same plastic takeaway containers they offer for their drive-through service instead.
Service is quick but seats are limited – they only have simple plastic stools beside their stall.
- Address: 50, Jalan Mustapha Al-Bakri, Taman Jubilee, 30300 Ipoh, Perak
- Opening hours: 10:30am to 7:30pm (Closed on Tuesdays)
Big Mom Beancurd
Big Mom Beancurd has lots of seating (with tables) and fans in their corner lot location. And despite the fans, it can still be stuffy in the middle of the afternoon.
This popular tau foo fah shop has homemade toppings like glutinous balls (certain flavors are only available on weekends).
The way they present their dessert is very photogenic. But their service can be very slow.
- Address: 22 & 24, Jalan Yang Kalsom, Taman Jubilee, 30250 Ipoh, Perak
- Opening hours: 12pm to 6pm (Closed on Thursdays)
Woong Kee Beancurd
For those of you who’ve had tau foo fah before, we recommend trying this one. The texture is unique to other tau foo fah in Ipoh. It’s hard to describe it.
But to try this tau foo fah, you’ll need to accept roadside seating, no fans, and limited seating (with no backrests).
You can either try tau foo fah from their stall at Taman Jubilee in Ipoh New Town. Or from their original food truck in Bercham.
Their soya bean milks come in some unusual flavors – like carrot. And they do have some interesting sugar syrup flavors as well.
- Address: No.32-38A (bawah, Jalan Ali Pitchay, Taman Jubilee, 30250 Ipoh, Perak
- Opening hours: 11:30am to 6pm (Closed on Wednesdays)
Lai Kee Soya Bean
Want to escape the crowds and have seating for your group? We prefer Lai Kee Soya Bean over Funny Mountain Soya Beancurd for this reason.
Both their soya bean milk and tau foo fah are smooth and have just the right level of sweetness.
There are no special topping choices here, but you do get to choose from a few different flavors of sugar syrup – pandan, ginger or Gula Melaka.
- Address: 38, Jalan Theatre, Taman Jubilee, 30300 Ipoh, Perak
- Opening hours: 10am to 6:30pm
Kedai Makanan & Minuman Ding Feng
This tau foo fah seller used to have a lot on Concubine Lane. But now they have a corner shop lot of their own.
The highlight of dining here is their attractive vintage interior, a toilet that customers can use, and air-conditioning.
Because of this, this place can get very crowded in the afternoon.
And aside from the usual plain sugar syrup or ginger syrup with your tau foo fah, you can get Teochew style tau foo fah or bird nest tau foo fah here.
- Address: 11, Jalan Bijeh Timah, 30000 Ipoh, Perak
- Opening hours: 9:30am to 5:30pm
Conclusion
Our favorite Ipoh tau foo fah is by Woong Kee Beancurd. But the others on this list are also great.
So, we recommend choosing a spot based on how you want your tau foo fah served, and if you require seating for a big group.
