Their salted chicken is pre-packed and ready to go. The price is RM30+ per box. These can be kept in the freezer and steamed when you want to eat them.

This dish is salty and thus, not for those with high blood pressure.

Peanut candy is what Sin Weng Fai is known for. Although they have many other local treats inside their brightly lit shop.

One bag (300g) of peanut candy costs RM11. We do advise getting more than one bag because these treats are very delicious and easy to finish.

4. Kaya Puffs

Though you can find kaya puffs in many places in Ipoh, the most famous brand for kaya puffs in Ipoh is Sin Eng Heong.

This simple shop has been in operation for many years and is well known among locals for the quality and freshness of their kaya puffs.

They are not stingy with the kaya filling and the size of their kaya puffs too. And they bake their delightfully flaky kaya puffs daily along with other traditional pastries.

Another signature pastry that they bake and sell is their salted egg with chicken floss balls.

You might notice shops of a similar name, Sin Eng Hoe and these are managed by the son. There are a few different branches of Sin Eng Hoe in Ipoh New Town.

If you’re keen on trying the kaya puffs by Sin Eng Hoe but want to avoid long queues, it is better to head over to the Pasir Pinji branch of Sin Eng Hoe.

But if you don’t mind driving further out from town, you can buy pomelo straight from the pomelo plantations in Tambun.

Note: GoChin Agro Farm in particular, accepts visitors into their farm to view their plantation.

Let the sellers know if you prefer sour (red flesh) or sweet (white flesh) pomelo.

Pomelos are not great when the flesh is dry. Thus, if you must choose a pomelo on your own (and not rely on a seller who might be dishonest), compare their weights.

And to be on the safe side, don’t get pomelo at all if it has not been raining often in the previous month.

Pomelos are typically at their best (and juiciest) right after rainy season.
