How Do Get To Ipoh From Singapore?
If that’s the question that’s on your mind, this is the post for you. We’ll touch on the different transportation methods that are available to you if you’re starting your journey from Ipoh.
As well as which methods are more friendly on your wallet. And which are most convenient.
Ready to get started?
1. Direct Flight
The best way to save time and travel conveniently is to take a direct flight from Singapore’s Changi Airport straight to the Ipoh airport (Sultan Azlan Shah Airport).
The flights usually take under an hour one way. And the two main airlines for this journey are Scoot and AirAsia.
From Ipoh airport, you can easily take a taxi or call up a ride with the local e-hailing service, Grab.
You can get to Ipoh Old Town this way for under RM20 one way – provided your group size is under 4 pax.
Flights are at their most expensive (and in very high demand) during weekends that coincide with big holidays like Christmas and Chinese New Year.
You do need to book early (months ahead if you can) as these holidays approach.
Price range: RM300 to RM800 for a round trip for 1 pax.
2. Direct Bus
Buses from Singapore to Ipoh are extremely popular with the working crowd. This is the most economical way to do so too.
Note: Many Malaysians working in Singapore will book their bus tickets several months ahead for Chinese New Year.
There are also many different departure points from Singapore.
Different Departure Points In Singapore:
- Concorde Shopping Centre (Havelock MRT Exit 5)
- Grantral Mall (Macpherson)
- Kitchener Complex (Lavender MRT)
- Boon Lay
- Golden Mile Tower
- Kovan Hub 206
- Katong V Mall
- Beach Road
In contrast, there are 2 main arrival points in Ipoh – either Terminal Meru Raya (Ipoh Amanjaya Bus Station) or Jalan Bendahara in Ipoh (only with selected bus operators, Sri Maju and Super Nice Grassland).
And if you can sit/ sleep on a bus for long hours, the 8-hour journey isn’t that bad since the buses are air-conditioned (it’s quite cold on the buses).
The worst part of the journey when travelling during peak season is the jam between the Malaysian and Singaporean borders.
Do give yourself plenty of buffer time if you plan to take the bus from Singapore to Ipoh.
Price range: RM150+ to RM300 for a one-way trip for 1 pax
3. Private Car Service
There are a few private transport services available that can take you past the Singapore-Johor Bahru border and all the way up to Ipoh.
The price depends on things like your date, group size and which vehicle you prefer. During peak season, this might cost you more than a flight to Ipoh.
But because this is a door-to-door service, it is the most convenient if you don’t mind being in the car for long hours.
There is also the option to break up the journey by visiting a few stops along the way.
For example, Singapore – Malacca – KL – Genting – Cameron Highlands – Ipoh

Conclusion
If price isn’t an issue for you, a direct flight is the fastest way to travel between Singapore to Ipoh. If you have other places you want to visit, then you could also consider a private transport service.
The next best (budget) transportation option is an overnight bus.
And if you’re traveling light and without children or elderly, then the ETS train is another option you can consider since it can bypass heavy traffic on the highways.
But we don’t advise taking the train since it very inconvenient with multiple train changes. Besides, the money you can save from taking the train isn’t much different from taking the bus.
