Ipoh Airport To Town – What Is The Best Way To Go About This?
Does Ipoh Airport offer a direct shuttle service to Ipoh? If not, what are the available options?
For first-time visitors to Ipoh, the next destination after touchdown at Sultan Azlan Shah Airport will be a hotel. Which is most likely in Ipoh Old Town or Ipoh New Town.
In this post, we’ll discuss all the ways you can get to your next destination from the airport.
Taking Grab
Because there is no downtown shuttle service, this is the first option you should consider if your group size is under 4 pax.
It’s cheap (under RM20 one-way) and there are always Grab drivers available at the airport. All you need to do is download the app.
Taking A Taxi
If you can’t access the Grab app, don’t worry. There are taxis on standby at the airport.
These cost more than taking an e-hailing service, but you won’t have to wait long since the drivers are already ready to go.
Taking The Bus
We don’t recommend taking this option since it’s not the most convenient (i.e., no direct stops). Even if it’s the most budget-friendly option in this list (under RM5 one-way).
Note: Buses are air-conditioned, but bus stops are not.
But if you have no other choice, look for the bus service number, T37 which will take you to the Medan Kidd Bus Station in Ipoh Old Town.
- Frequency: 1 hour
- Operating Hours: 5:40am to 7pm
Recommended Stops that you can alight at:
For new town:
- Taiwa Jalan C.M. Yusuff (5 minutes’ walk to Mural Art’s Lane)
- Kamdar at Jalan Raja Musa Aziz (3 to 5 minutes’ walk to famous eateries like Lou Wong, Aun Kheng Lim Salted Chicken and a lot of souvenir shops)
For old town, these two stops are close to Birch Memorial Clock Tower and Concubine Lane
- SMK St. Michael
- Ipoh Train Station / KTMB Ipoh Station
If you were to walk to Concubine Lane from this Medan Kidd Bus Station, it will take you 10 to 15 minutes and it will be a very hot walk under the sun.
Taking A Car Rental Service
If you don’t mind the frustrations that come with finding parking in touristy parts of Ipoh, car rental services are available at Ipoh Airport.
Though you might want to book ahead to avoid potential hiccups and delays.
For a small, locally made model, you can expect to pay around RM140 per day to rent a car.
Taking A Private Tour & Transport Service
For utmost convenience and comfort, Explore Ipoh provides private tour and transport services. We have vehicles that can suit larger groups too.
You can have a local guide/ driver fetch you from the airport for lunch in Ipoh Old Town.
Note: We can take you directly to Cameron Highlands after pick up from Ipoh Airport.
And subsequently, have them drop you off at your hotel for check-in and a quick rest before heading out again to do some sightseeing in Ipoh.
